Hi,
Let's see. So many questions. First, are you male or female? If you're a female, you can't get into combat arms jobs but everything else is pretty much open to you. I recommend that you choose a job you like and that's going be useful on the outside when you get out.
Let's see. Pros: I'll tell you a thing that we've been saying in the Army for a long time. " The richest soldier in the Army is a Private". The reason they say this is because new soldiers usually don't have bills, they live in barracks so there's no rent, they're medical benifits don't cost anything and they eat at the dining facility, which is free. College tuition is also free through something called eArmyU. So, their paychecks are simply for spending or saving. ( I stress saving!) Not to mention, you will go up in rank, which means more money.
Cons: You will have to deploy. That means coming to a place like Iraq or Afghanistan and spending a year. It usually goes by fast though, and you make more money. Tax free, hazardous duty pay and a bunch of other things. Some of your superiors can be a little difficult to deal with, but the majority are pretty cool.
No, your not stuck in it for life. You have a term of enlistment which can last 2-6 years, depending what your contract says. You and your recruiter will have this all written down before you sign the contract. Don't worry, most recruiters are honest and will not try to get you into something you don't want.
Can you get out early? It depends. You can get a failure to adapt to military life discharge, but I think you'll find that it's a pretty good life. Nothing is perfect, though. Look at it this way. No job on the outside is perfect either.
Well....I can go on forever but the easiest way to find out what you qualify for. Of you can, print out this answer. It may produce more questions for you to ask. Take care and good luck!

I'm 20 years old and I am in the Air Force. Joining the military is a big decision and one you should make for yourself not because someone thinks you should. I've been in only about a year but its been a big change for me some good some not so good. It all depends on what you want out of life. I know there's great benefits to joining the military like health and schooling, but it's not like you can just join in and go to school right away the mission always comes first. Whether the mission is going to the dessert for a year or going to Hawaii, you are a body to the government and you go where you're needed. It's kinda cool cause you meet alot of interesting folks and you definitely learn alot, but most of all I've never felt more patriotic than I do now.

I did 20+ years in the Navy. Most of it was with the Marine Corps. I was in Grenada, Panama, Somalia, Desert Storm and a few places not to be mentioned. My recommendatin, go to college first. Life as an enlisted was all right, but life as an officer is even better. Better pay, better duty, better living quarters, better. This may sound sexist, but as a woman, you'd probably be better served going into the Air Force. The cons? We a... we are at war right now. Two wars. While it's true that you stand a greater chance of being seriously injured in a car crash here than dying there (do the math...) life in the m,ilitary can be harsh and short lived. I was once in a squadron that lost 47 men in 2 1/2 years (without being in a war).

I've been in the Army for 22+ years and have had a great career. I will agree that it isn't for everyone. You won't be stuck for life. It depends on your contract on the amount of time that you will have to do. If you don't like it.... well...that's entirely up to you. But as has said before, don't let a recruiter give you a line of crap. There are ways out of the Army and none that I would recommend. If you do go, do your time and get out if you don't like it, an honorable discharge goes a long way, if you do like it then stay. All is your choice.

Congratulations on thinking about making this commitment. I don't know which branch of service you should join. I am an Air Force veteran and in to days world I would choose it again. The Pros are several including if you have not made a decision as to what you want to do in life the service will give you time to make that decision. The service does not have to be a lifelong commitment as you can get out after you have served your enlistment, be it two years or whatever.
The only way you can get out early, before your enlistment is up would be if they agree to let you out early. So make certain you want to do this before you sign on the dotted line.

Sounds like Anarchy is the one who's been 'brainwashed' by the Leftspeak.
Joining the Army is a very serious commitment. You pledge your life to uphold the Constitution and defend this country in both peace and war-time. Once you sign your name and go, there's no turning back no matter how much you might want to. You can get out early, but you will pay hell doing it. NOBODY leaves basic training early!!! They will make you stay and finish.
Military service is difficult. Especially basic training. Once you finish basic things do get much more relaxed, but the Army lifestyle is with you 24/7. Make sure it's something you want to live by. It's seldom easy, but I guarantee that in the few short years you spend serving you will grow more emotionally and physically than you will the rest of your life.
That and every American will be very proud of you. Everyone except for 'Anarchy' that is.

I am not too certain what the Army is offering for enlistment contracts right now, but if you do enlist, there is pretty much no easy way out until your contract (typically 4 years) is up. There are ways to leave early such as insuitability and medical. Insuitability is bad because that earn you a dishonorable discharge which gives you the rights as a convicted felon.

well... i myself am in Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. I'm trying to get into a college with ROTC or the naval academy. the pros are that if you finished college and have military experience, employers are all over you wanting you in their company.
cons
-if you are in the army, you'll most likely be sent out right after boot camp
-military is always dangerous. you never know if you'll survive to see the next day or not .
-there is no early exit. unless you are discharged, injured, or released because you are homosexual

A recruiter can provide all the pros to you.
The cons are many. In essence, the army will own you for four years.
No, you can't get out if you don't like it.
I spent 22 years in the navy and loved every minute of it.
