I would go with the Sonata. I worked at a Pontiac dealer and, as much as I hate to say it, the initial quality is good but the cars just don't last. Unfortunately GM just has not improved enough to make long lasting cars yet (now work at Saturn).
I personally own an Elantra and after having it a year and almost 35K miles (bought new) I have not had anything mechanical fail. I did blow the tweeters from listening to my music too loud but the dealership replaced them under warranty. But I have not had to return to the dealer for any other concern. And the warranty is well worth it.
And the gas economy is fantastic, I regularly get 34mpg on the high driving 70-80mph and have gotten as high as 38 on a long trip from Michigan to Mississippi.

The Sonata is a nice car, under rated, I would give it serious consideration. I know 2 owners of the Sonata and they love it, very quiet, smooth and have had no problems. I can't say the same for GM's quality, intake gaskets, head gaskets, A/C's and resale is no better then the Sonata. Hyundai is here to stay and they've come a long way and there dealer network is strong.

G6 all the way! it's a sweet car, trust me. Go drive one, you'll like it. I didn't much care for the Hyundai. as for reliability, the G6 hasn't given me a problem yet and i've put 20,000 miles on it. I know, not a lot, but it's so fun to drive and the gas mileage is really good. I would def. recommend one.

Wanna recognize why? GM product.I used to love GM yet they're extremely slaking on how the construct them.I have an previous college seventy 9 Trans Am with a 455ci engine, and thanks to its age it runs tremendous.lower back then they outfitted them to take a beating, same to at least some thing now a days the more moderen the junkier.i purchased a Toyota 1991 and that component continues to be kicking,it has over 2 hundred ok on it.the only component i did became the timing belt broke after like 150k so i extremely do believe that Toyota makes the perfect automobiles now a days.

I have a 2006 V6 Sonata and love it, it is a very smooth ride. My brother test drove it and liked it so much he bought one too.
Also, can't beat the Hyundai warranty.
