All this crap about dating first cousins is that there has been some research to show that children of 1st cousins could be somewhat less than normal, or have some sort of defect. Suddenly, people saw it as incestuous. Yes, they are a relative, but it isn't like its a brother or sister.
Second cousins have never been shown to create children with specific physical anomalies or defects that should prevent 2nd cousins from dating. If you like her or him, go for it. Be happy.

The only line is in your mind.

It is not considered incest.
If you want to get married 26 states allow cousin marriage.
Yes, it is legal.

"No European country prohibits marriage between first cousins. It is also legal throughout Canada and Mexico to marry your cousin. The USA is the only western country with cousin marriage restrictions."

Also, concerning genetics: "Children of non-related couples have a 2-3% risk of birth defects, as opposed to first cousins having a 4-6% risk. " In other words there isn't really much of a risk of genetically inferior children.

I cant believe you asked this LOL. We went through this with my son LOL. They are like 5th or 6th cusins & if they had of met in high school started dateing then found out they were kin it wouldn't of bothered us as much, but they grew up togather knowing they were cusins. Any ways what Im trying to say is ... have you always been close cusins or did you just meet then found out you are cusins? Will it put a big strain on your family? Is it worth it if it will ? I don't think there is a legal thing here but a moral thing. Ask your self these questions & if you still love each other & it is worth it ... hey who are we to say any thing. It is hard enough to find your soul mate & if you have found it in your cusin ... more power to ya. At least your not brother & sister ( V.C. Andrews- Flowers in the atic)

Are you really wanting to date your cousin? Think of how many people are in the world and you pick some one in your family?!?! Come on! I know you can't be that desperate!! I'm pretty sure that fits nicely into the just plain wrong category.

I wouldn't consider anything closer than 3rd cousin to be acceptable to me.

And I am from West Virginia, believe me I know what line breeding looks like as well as any Englishman does.

Dating a cousin, is just out of the question! I dont care if they were 1st, 2nd 3rd, etc. That is still family in my book. There is far to many more people out there besides your family that you could be dating. Family is family, and dating family is nasty, sorry that is just how I see it!

It's your line, you draw it.

In Edwardian England, it was common practice for 1st cousins to marry - too much of that could produce some harmful recessive genes surfacing though. Although, contrary to common belief, they don't pop up like spring floweres.

I think I might feel out how my family felt about this before it happens, though.

The closer the relationship, the more likely that problems may be found in offspring in such a union. Second or more distant cousins are not usually a problem, either legally or genetically.

There are sooooo many fishes in the sea.......Why question it? Just start looking elsewhere. if you are asking then it should not be done.. It may be legal once it is the 3rd or 4th generation, but why? You probably need to get out in the world more first..Best of luck
