Rawhide. Tons of rawhide. Puppies NEED to chew. Your dog will stop it once it gets a year old or older.
In case of my Huskie, she chewed stuff until she was two, then stopped.
You can get some bitter apple spray from the pet store and mark the stuff you don't want the dog to chew. A little Cayenne pepper also helps keep them off things.
But the dog MUST chew, so supply it with rawhide to chew on.

1st There is a spray called Grannicks Bitter Apple, it is made to spray directly on the dog to keep him from chewing himself, It could also be used to spray the item that the dog likes to chew on..(check a small area for discolorations)

2nd Fill a small coffee can or the like with some small stones. when you see the dog chewing something he/she is not supposed to, aproach him quickly while vigarously shaking the can.. (works better than swatting with newspaper) dogs hate it.

3rd Make sure the dog has chew toys and does not get too bored. boredom is the trigger for bad dog behavior. take him out more often, long walks or runs would help.. keep him active.

Go to the local petstore and buy your dog some thick rubber bones and bitter apple spray. Your puppy is teething so give it stuff it's allowed to chew on.

i have a 1yr old basset and he chewed everything from cell phones, remotes, tennis shoes to newspapers.... i kept him in a supply of rawhide chew/pigears etc. Also, I asked my vet (an old guy about 70yr old) and he told me to go to my local garden store and buy Alum (a by-product of aluminum) and sprinkle it on anyting that I wanted him not to chew on, it's a bitter tasting substance and unlike bitter apple sprays he will not or is unlikely to get use to the taste...Also,Theo was create trained but if I was only running to the store for a minute I would'nt crate him, and that's when he would do his thing....so even if your going to leave for a second create him/her...... Also make sure that you put your shoes, remotes house phones, cell phones etc up out of reach for the pup to get....they are just like human babies in the fact that you have to somewhat "baby proof" your home....
hope it helps

get that spray stuff that will have a bad taste for your puppy but won't harm him. you can spray it on the stuff that he chews and everytime he goes to chew it, it will taste bad. also keep lots of toys and bones around for him to stay occupied with those objects instead.

Before I read the website below, I would have recommended a squirt bottle, but now I know differently. The website said not to punish the puppy, but instead distract him/ her.

Try getting a kong toy and putting kibble and cheese or peanut butter in it. You can get these at wal-mart or the pet shop.

Well, maybe use some type of disinfectant to get the smell of. He/she might just do it because he/she misses you.
