Wonderful question that you are asking and it is cool that you like to read. Reading causes your personality and intelligence to grow far beyond the person who does not read. Really.
Now, if you have not yet read 'The Phantom Tollbooth', by Norton Juster, its a good book for you to read. Its a fairly easy read and a clever story about a boy in school who has decided he no longer likes to learn. On his way home from school one day, he finds a delivery in his bedroom- a large box with a bright envelope atttached to it. He opens the envelope and inside finds instructions for to build his very own tollbooth along with a few coins. (if you do not live near a big city you may not know that there are some highway roads that you must pay money to drive on- the tollbooth is where you pay your money). Once the boy has constructed the tollbooth he puts his tokens in and drives on thru... into a totally new distant land and peoples. What is challanging about this story is that it contains many metaphors about living life... write the metaphors down as you read to see how many you find.... you will have fun finding them and learn that life has so many exciting fun times ahead. The charactors are really cool.

The Narnia Series, of course, by C.S. Lewis, who by the way was very good friends with Tolkien, who wrote The Hobbit Trilogy. ... Both authors books are excellent .

Another wonderful challange for you at thirteen would be to see how many Newbury Award Winners you can read. I have read them all and have absolutely loved every single one. Most are written for tweens. There usually are special spots on the bookshelves at your bookstore for these books- or you could print up a list off the internet and then check them off as you read them. I actually feel this is a great way for you to start new books and in the process of great and fun reading you will learn so much. This is my favorite idea for you. (I do love Tollbooth tho also)

I began reading at your age like crazy... and even got into biographies about people like Amelia Erhart, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell.... and some of the Classics- like Count of Monte Cristo. Every single one was good.

You are a smart girl to look to reading for enjoyment- and as you grow you will find that you have become a better person in life. There is so much adventure to be found and learned about in a good book. Agood idea is to always keep a good book at your bedside to read before you fall asleep or read if you wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep. Happy reading .

I'm not sure what your tastes and reading level are. How about Madeleine L'engle's Murray family trilogy: A Wrinkle In Time; A Wind In the Door; and A Swiftly Tilting Planet.

I read every Nancy Drew book (about 40 at that time) between the ages of 10 and 15. I just thought they were great, and waited very impatiently for each new one to come out.
