Your mom is not a dork, she is just hoping that you change your mind last minute because she is afraid you will get hurt or die!!!
If my son decided to go, I could not have another peaceful night!
All the best to you!!!

Your Mom is not a dork...she is a concerned mom who is worried about your safety. You should be ashamed of yourself to say a thing like that. I wish you the best while in the service. God Bless You and hope you stay safe.

Be nice to your mom. She is understandingly worried. Just tell her you'll be careful, thats what she wants to hear. No point in making her worry anymore than she will anyway.

I have nephews and a brother in the military. One is in Iraq and one is in Afgahnistan. Its difficult to explain how I feel about it. I am first very proud of them and all the men that are willing to put their lives on the line. But every time a bomb goes off I flinch, and when the headlines read x number U.S. troops killed here or there I check the details, and wonder if something happens will I read it in the headlines or will the family be notified first.

If you do get deployed don't tell your mom much about what you'll be doing. My brother told me, but he didn't tell mom. She has no idea how dangerous his job is. Your mom doesn't need to know that either.

First off, i'm leaving for bootcamp in the summer so its nice to hear that others on this q&a thing are going in the service too. Second, my mom is the same way, but i guess she has that right especially after all thats going on in the world today. Deep down she is really happy that you are making a life for yourself, but she can't help to worry, its in their nature i guess. Just keep telling her that you are sure. thats what i do and after a while she'll stop asking. Mine did. But, Good Luck and Be safe.

T, my MIL still asks my husband if he's sure ...and he's 26 and been in for 4+ years and planning to make it a career. Sounds like you have a mom that's a worrier so get used to her asking you this. Just do what you feel is right for you and try and tune out whatever she's saying that bugs you. Good luck with bootcamp! ;-)

Tell her this is your decision, and that if she loves you, she should support you and stop trying to make you change your mind. Tell her this is about what you want and this is not about her.

From your question, it sounds like boot camp would be a benefit for you. It will teach you respect and discipline!
It will show you how to take care of another person as your mother has for you.
