This is mainly a poll type question to satisfiy my curiousity. Windows Vista is the next version of windows, the one suceeding Windows XP

Keep in mind that you're selling yourself short without the newest operating system. Newer software will be made for Windows Vista, not Windows XP or lower. Also if your computer meets these specs it will run better with Vista:

Windows Vista Premium-Ready:

1GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1GB system memory
Support for DirectX 9 graphics w/ WDDM driver; min. 128MB graphics memory; Pixel Shader 2.0; 32 bits-per-pixel
40GB hard drive with 15GB free space
DVD-ROM Drive
Audio output
Internet access

Unless your PC meets those specs or higher upgrade or stick with your previous operating system.
If your PC does not meet these requirements but you want a Vista look download the Vista Transformation pack 6.0 Final. http://www.windowsxlive.net/?page_id=15

My computer:

AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ 2.20 Gh
2 GB Ram
200 GB Hard Drive
Radeon X1600 Pro 512MB video card

Yeah, baby!

Are you running a survey, or taking a vote or something? There is more than one federal agency that will not upgrade to Vista, but that's normal with the feds. They didn't upgrade to XP until it had been on the market for at least a year. They will do the same with Vista. As for the normal user, there will always be those people who have to be the first ones to get something new, then spend the next year bitching about it. Like any new operating system, Microsoft or anyone else's, it takes time to get all the quirks and bugs out. They ALL have them. As for the people in this forum, I refuse to answer questions from those who rushed out to buy a new computer or buy Vista and now want help with it.

I'm a system administrator for about 120 people. I won't be looking into upgrading to Vista at all for at least 12 months. It might even be 18 months.

From what I can tell it looks like there are hardly any new features that I can justify the extra hardware purchases for. The only reason I'll eventually upgrade is to stay compatible with all the other crap Microsoft will come out with eventually and "only work with Vista".

I will consider upgrading it when service pack 1 will be released. Until then I don't really trust Vista. It still has many problems which Microsoft must solve (neverminding the software availability for it).

PS. Vista Transformation Pack is highly unstable so all of you who want to try it make sure you make some system restore points and backup your data before doing so.

Lets face it everyone with a windows os will eventually have vista. I plan on waiting at least 1 year or until sp2 comes out.

I don't think Vista home edition will ask for all those numbers you have written neither the Vista media edition, this will require only 512 memory

I have already bought windows vista home premium upgrade. I just have to get my computer working again (I have to wait 2-3 weeks :( ). I had the RC1 beta version, and I loved it! BTW, it wasn't the beta that crashed the computer, it was me!

well when XP came, everyone felt the same way.

i think eventually everyone will buy Vista for their computers.

I can't buy it now since my system isn't eligible, but i will when i buy a new computer, if it doesn't already come with it.
