I'm not sure why the article is related to your question. BUT...to answer the question, it's because if you're a Christian, then you're to remain above reproach as in 1Th 5:22 "Abstain from all appearance of evil." Also, by Christ's own example, He ate with sinners and freely conversed with them to spread His gospel. In the same manner, you're accountable for the people around you, so that they know the way.
I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about...but there it is.
