People have been eating sugar for hundreds of years (though not in the quantities we do now) whereas Aspartame is a relatively new substance to ingest and as this article states has only been subject to limited testing.

I know everytime I drink or eat something with that or any other artificial sweetener I get very bad headaches and it has a funny after taste, so I just stay away from the stuff.

My neice has a condition called Phenylketonuria which is a hereditary blood disorder. It is worsened by aspartame and another chemical called pheynalanine.
It means she will have a highly controlled diet for life, and the consequence can be life-threatening.

YES IT IS A SWEETENER--BUT TO MUCH OF IT IN SODAS
AND FOOD OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME WILL DEF DAMAGE YOUR LIVER ! ! THIS I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE AS I AM DIABETIC AND WAS DRINKING SODA & EATING FOOD WITH ASPARTAME FOR ABOUT 7 YRS AND HAVE FATTY TISSUE AROUND MY LIVER -- NOT GOOD

There is no easy way to put this. It makes you fart! It creates gas that makes your gut hurt. But if ingested in small amounts it is just fine. This is why you do not want to eat a whole tin of breath mints. Believe me, I know!

there is no problem at all. at least the last survey showed no problems. of course anything not natural can eventually cause bad things to an organism so its good not to take anything for a long time
