I really want a job and I have all A's in school and I am very involved, but my parents think I am too involved and say they won't let me have a job. I need my own money to pay for gas and my own clothes, how can I convince them to let me have a job?

Tell them you won't ask for money anymore, and that you will still do really good in school. Tell them a job will make you more responsible as a person and make you realzie what the value of a dollar is.

If you are carrying a full load they are just afraid you will suffer... there are many ways that it could happen.... burn out, grades, lose of energy, eating disorders, lose of sleep, etc.... they are just doing their jobs by protecting you, so do not be so hard on them...... If you realy want to work, maybe you need to rethink the load you carry at school ?? maybe a club or 2 or after school activity ?? Is there anything you are doing that is not a part of your future needs ?? Write down and discuss with your parents the whys of the job you want.... list ALL your school activities, putting them into order of importance to you, and talk about which ones you might could give up and why..... then make a plan for it all to fit, what hours you would like to work, what you would do with any extra time on your hands,etc..., make a formal and wise argument on your own behalf, then take to them for OPEN and HONEST and RESPECTFUL discussion....... God bless

State your case that you appreciate that they give you an allowance but you feel that you want to earn some money on your own. Offer that if your grades slip that you will quit. Most states have limits on when kids can work such as how many hours and what time. In Massachusetts i think a minor can only work until 9pm. Tell your parents that you would like to be able to contribute to some of the things they are currently paying for. Such as your car insurance on your vehicle and put some of it away in a savings account. Good luck!

I had the same problem growing up. I never did win the battle. What you can tell them is that people like me who didn't get to work in high school are at a severe disadvantage in today's job market because of lack of work experience. If that doesn't work, make them a deal. Agree to try working for one quarter during the school year. Suggest that you be allowed to keep the job, as long as there are no negative changes in your school or extracurricular performance. Jobs like serving or hosting are very flexible when it comes to scheduling, so you can work around your existing school and after school schedule.

Well you need to make some sacrifices. If they think you are too involved, then perhaps before you will be allowed to get a job you may need to give up a few activities. They don't want you spread to thin and as a result have your grades slip.

Approach it that way...tell them what you are willing to give up if you can have a job.

Make an agreement with your parents that if you keep up your grades while working then you can continue working, but if your grades slip then you will need to quit the job.

Trust me, you are going to have the rest of your life to work...Don't be in a huge rush! Enjoy school, your after school activities and friends while you can!

Tell them you will agree to a trial period. Let you work for a few months and see how things go. Sit down with them and make a list of priorities. If those things get neglected then you will agree to quit.

I think you should do somthing to prove to your parents that you DO deserve this job. And maybe if you are very involved you could drop somthing that way you have freetime to make sure you can do everything

woooooh, you're situation is really difficult..
you see parents nowadays are so strict and they want to secure your education.. especially you have all A's in school
they know that when you'll going to have a job, it can disturb.
you will have no enough time to study well, because you'll have to spend it in working..

how can you convince them?

tell them to give you a chance..
show them your effort in studying..
just show them that they're wrong for not letting you to work..

just be yourself, show them that you really want a job..

wahahaha... go! go! go!
