There is a white, plastic tray which you can buy for next to nothing for the microwave.
All you do is pierce the potato a few times, I also cut the potato in the middle where i'll open it for the filling and place it on the tray. It holds 4 potatoes (depending on size)
It is much easier and quicker than if you baked them in the oven.
Hope this helps.

wash the potato and poke holes all around the potato with a fork. Then wrap the potato in a paper towel. Place it in the microwave for about 2-3 minutes on high. This will cook the potato and you will have a great tasting meal.

I know my way might be a bit "old-fashioned", but since I learned the best way from my wife, who owned a baked potato store in the mall, and she was very successful in her business, I feel somewhat qualified. First of all, she NEVER used a microwave oven to bake the potato. She would wash it (water only) and then put it on a tray and put the tray into the oven. Depending on the size of the potato, her cooking time would vary, as would the temperature setting, but the 350 recommendation others have given you is a good average setting. Now, she used a convection oven in her store, which you probably do not have at home, so even though she did not wrap hers in aluminum foil, I would recommend it. And she never punched holes in them, neither did I, but, . . . whatever. 45 minutes sounds like a good average time for cooking, but again, it depends on the size of your potato. Once it's cooked according to your desires, let me recommend that before you cut it open lengthwise, butter it and let the butter melt all over the peel so if you're one who loves to eat the peel, it will be softer and tastier for you. Then open the potato in the lengthwise direction you cut it, and get a small fork and begin churning up the potato in the peel. Then you can do WHATEVER you want to the potato. Many people start with the butter, and I love mine with plenty of butter substitute of one brand or another, your choice. And then she'd have sliced mushrooms and chives and jalapeno peppers and diced white onions and sometimes bacon bits, and just anything you want in there, including the proverbial kitchen sink if you wish. Oh, and she'd use cheddar cheese (grated) on top, and sometimes if she wanted to make her "Mexican" version, she'd include some Picante sauce in there. Just let your imagination be your guide, and you can have a multitude of "versions" of a baked potato to your delight. Oh, and she'd make a "dieters" version, but I can't remember what she did to that one since I was NEVER on a diet when I went to her store. Have fun with it, and ENJOY!!! God Bless you.

Baked Potatoes
Turn oven on to 350 degrees.
Scrub the potato with a brush, poke a fork into each potato several times (this is so it won't explode during baking). Place in a oven and bake for 45 minutes. Check to be sure they are done, if so remove, enjoy with Sour Cream, bacon bits, chopped chives or your favorite salad dressing (ranch is good).

If you have a microwave, wash and dry the potato. Stick a fork in it in several places. Wrap in a paper towel and bake for 7 to 8 minutes. Take out of oven and cut a cross in it, then squeeze, fill with butter, sour cream, veggies, whatever you like.

wash the potato and put it in the microwave oven and see the little potato button on the right. Press it and in a couple of minutes you have a cooked, baked potato.
