...something like "if you hang your faith on the outcome and it doesn't happen then you've got nothing", or something like that. WELL WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO GAUGE IT BY?????

this is the fourth question i believe on this subject. i think someone said something to you to get your panties in a bunch...okay
false hopes. eg: you placed all your money on the best horse,(supposedly according to the odds) the race is over and another horse, the underdog to win, wins. you got nothing. same principle applied to your life. why do you need a gauge? what, if anything is to be measured? you can still have faith, even if you become disappointed, when you continue to do so,(have faith) you persevere, which increases your faith .

Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.
