I have used red red icing paste, Christmas red paste, etc. I have let it sit overnight. It still turns out dark pink. Help!

Hi !!!

* Try this... for a Ruby Red Color : 1 Red Red + 1 touch black

**I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE USING ORIGINAL "CRISCO" & ALSO A SEPARATE BUTTER FLAVORING, NOT BUTTERED FLAVORED "CRISCO" WHICH WOULD HAVE TOO MUCH YELLOW IN IT.

Here is a great site for you...

I use "paste" & "gel" food tints...

Gel colors: which I prefer, are widely available in specialty stores and through some online catalogs. They impart a strong color and are easy to use, blending in more easily than the paste colors
Paste colors: Food coloring paste, which comes in a wider variety of colorsand are a very concentrated form of color. They give more vivid and deep colors than gel colors, but should be used in very small quantities.

First using the butter flavored crisco has a yellow hint to it making it near impossible to get true red, and the paste red coloring if you add to much to get that red or should I say the red that you can get with it the frosting takes on a bitter nasty taste. The trick is to use white shortening and use the powder coloring that you can get at the places like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Walmart and of course your cake decorating places where you can rent pans and get supplies from. They are also usually full line bakeries for cakes and such. The other thing to get icing white there is a product by Wilton that is suppossed to get your iceing white. I have used it to make brighter colors more pastel or muted. The whole red dye thing is a nightmare. For my 4th daughters 1st b-day we did Elmo(red Red Red ) I went through an jar of the powder. I hope this helps you.

I don't know how to make it using crisco but here's another way. 1. Beat 1 Pkg. (8oz) softened cream cheese, 4tbsp. softened butter, 2tbsp. sour cream, and 2tsp pure vanilla extract in a large bowl until light and fluffy. 2. Gradually beat in 1 box (16oz) confectioners' sugar(powder) on medium till smooth.
