probably a larger percent of people who don't have children are ready and a large percent of those who do have or are having them are not financially ready. i could be but i chose to spend my money elsewhere.

I don't think you can ever be "financially ready" at least the majority. Baby expenses are unpredictable and fluctuates with all the new gadgets, diapers, bottles, there's no fixed rate on taking care of a baby. There's many needs for baby things but there's a lot of unnecessary things out on the market as well that are baby luxury items. I'm not rich and I'm not on welfare, but her father and I gets all her essentials and then some so she's spoiled enough. Besides, when you have babies, people are more generous so you get a lot of things free too. That's the beauty of having a baby. The giving never stops... well until they're like toddlers maybe. I don't think you can put a percentage because if it is it's really slim. Life is unexpected so one minute you can be and then stuff can come up, but the more children you have decreases that financial ability as well. I have one so that is maneagable for me.

You'd have to define financially ready. I know I spent $1200 or so on maternity clothes, about $2000 on getting things redy for the baby wihtout all the stuff i got from a baby shower, and most of it was done through ebay or sales...

I believe the generally accepted estimate is: Zero.
(The actual number is slightly higher, but not by much.)
