My husband and I have been married for almost 5 years and we never had a real honeymoon. We are planning on having our first baby and want to go to Hawaii first (hopefully conceive there). The problem is that my husband is terrified of flying. (otherwise we would go to Italy). We decised that a cruise would be nice. Would we miss out a lot by going on a cruise? Would we still get time in Hawaii?

We've never been on a cruise before.

My husband and I took a Hawaiian cruise for our honeymoon. We didn't take the one where we could leave from here and cruise over to Hawaii. However, I believe the cruise is the same once you GET to Hawaii, whether you start here or there. We had a wonderful time, the cruise went to several different islands, so we got to see much more than just going to one island and only seeing that one. We took tours that the cruise ship offered, one each day, so we could see more than just the dock, WalMart and Hilo Hattie's (there are buses at the docks to take you to WalMart and Hilo Hattie's, it's really quite funny). It left us plenty of time to do other things, and still do fun things on the ship as well. I highly recommend the cruise, if your finances can swing it. Good luck and Aloha!

NCL, Princess, Holland-America, and Royal Caribbean all cruise to Hawaii, however, NCL has the most sailings. They have several ships that just cruise around the Hawaiian islands for 7 days. If your husband doesn't like to fly then you can take one of the transpacific cruises that sail from CA, but these sailings are 11-15 days as it takes approx 5 days ea. way to cross the Pacific. You won't see as much of Hawaii as you will on a 7-day cruise or just staying on the island. If you're doing a transpacific crossing, don't expect to lay on deck and get a tan the whole way - it won't be warm enough for that until you get closer to Hawaii.

The cruise lines will also not allow you to sail to Hawaii, stay a week, and then sail back. You have to book a round trip if you're doing a transpacific.

Think you'll have a great time on the cruise. It really is a vacation in a vacation and a cruise is going to be a much better value than the cost of a flight, hotel, and all your meals in Hawaii.

Have a great time.

Take the CRUISE, TAKE THE CRUISE! Where else can you go to see almost all of the Hawaiian Islands and get to eat, sleep, be entertained with the most beautiful sites in the world?
You fly to Hawaii, you need to pick which of the islands you want to see as if you went to see all of the islands your allowed on it would cost you a bundle.
The Cruise. . u see all the islands without having to pick.
The cost for a hotel on Oahu is going to cost you a pretty picture
Where the cruise is about $100.00 a night and that is with food too. We are talking breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks too! Yummy!
Go on the cruise and pick which islands you want to go and check out or which ones you will just stay on the ship and relax. Each Island will have someone to meet you at the port and take you to see the volcano, go shopping, etc. Some of these rides are free. Where as flying you have to pay a taxi or rent a car!
Hey go for the cruise, and while ur checking out the islands, figure out which island you want to explore some more, then next time..... come back to Hawaii and see more of these most awesome islands!

The thing you need to understand is that these cruises to Hawaii are ONE WAY. If your hubby refuses to fly its going to be a little tough for you to get back to the US sans aircraft.

The cruises leave from Vancouver or California and spend 5-6 getting to Hawaii and then you have 5 or so days crusing around to each of the islands, a different one each day. I think it would be a great way to see the islands and you will have plenty of time to get off the boat and explore.

In order for this to work you are going to need to book two cruises, one on the way there and one on the way back. Some of the cruiselines don't even do this back to back so you really need to check out what the time lapse is and how long you'd have to be in Hawaii. As far as I know I've never heard of a round trip cruise to Hawaii, and if there is one it would probably be at least 30 days.

They do have similar transatlantic cruises to Europe and Italy. They are about 14 days long. The same situation would apply, one way to the destination and you'd either have to fly out or fly back since these cruises are one way.

Good luck and congrats. Cruises are a great time! And if your hubby still won't fly then a cruise to the carribean wouldn't be so bad!

Take the cruise over ! It's 5 days on the water I thought it would be dull .It was nearly as good as Hawaii We visited 5 islands its truly wonderful but we and another couple who went with us said the water time was the best time ever, course we wouldn't' want to miss Hawaii. Please consider this ya ain't gonna ever ever have another like this experience .If you must --save up a little longer and cruise over do a 10 day trip. Visit each of the islands. You will cruise around an active volcano at night and see the red molten Lava flow into the sea, Eat on board to save money and soak it all in! Fly home It is a safer way than driving and besides if he does die he already has a preview of paradise !
