I cured my sciatica with this natural treatment http://cure-sciatica.info
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Physical therapy can work with some people, at therapy you could also try the traction machine. Oftentimes, the vertabrae can be separated enough that the disc bulging causing the trapped nerve to release. It is done in very small actions, more of a pull, release, pull, release. Swimming can help as well, you must be sure to use a belly board to support yourself. Spas, hot tubs help, and walking. You must keep motion, keep walking to keep the muscles supporting your lower back stay strong, do Kegal excercises. Good luck.

Often you can have a pinched muscle in your lower back that presses on the nerves of your legs to make pains like that happen. For that reason I suggest releasing the muscles in your back which will release anything pinched there and if I'm correct the pain will be gone. Here is how to release your back muscles: Back: (do from a sitting position) Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side. For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

My chiropractor in Brooklyn - sometimes you feel worse off but in the long run nerve is released and pain resolves.

Good stretching exercises she recommended included arching your back like a cat while on hands and knees ( and FEEL the lower back stretching particularly) followed by arching in opposite direction and stretching neck up in air ( again pulling out the spine) as well as lifting each leg in turn up in air - probably best to rent or buy (or library) DVD to see exercises properly as wrongly done they can make things worse.

Always always supprt your lower back with cushion or pillow when sitting - pillow under knees when lying on back and between knees if lying on side - takes away the pull of the upper leg on lower back - you will notice a difference. Say goodbye to slouching on base of spine in chair - no choice if back pain.

Never use back in lifting - consciously use thighs to force legs up when lifting anything heavy and hold objects close to your body - it's amazing how badly we all lift things and so injure our backs.

Try an osteopath or chiropractor. They train for 4 - 7 years and really know what they're talking about. Find one you feel comfortable with - some use gentler techniques than others.

Also, don't leave it too long - the sooner you have it seen to the better.

See your doctor. If you try and treat it without knowing how, why and where it's trapped you could make things worse.

alternate ice packs and heat pads (hot water bottle) to ease the pain but only manipulation (Physio or massage) will release the nerve!
