Dark color should only matter if it is an issue about absorbing heat from light - especially sunlight.
I agree that it may be the fiber content in part. Not many sport socks are 100% cotton. Nylon and polyester don't allow your feet to breathe as much.
What I have also found to be a factor is the laundering process... we usually bleach white socks, which kills the odor-causing bacteria; but we can't bleach darker colors, and usually use cooler temperatures for color retention. So find a detergent that is gentle for colors, but that still kills bacteria.

I'm guessing that your dark socks are thinner than your white socks therefore the sweat isn't absorbed as much as with a thicker, white sock. However, I'm not a doctor or a rocket scientist so I can't say this is 100% correct.

Are your black socks made of a different material. That could cause your feet to sweat and make them smell worse.

Maybe because dark colors absorb light, so that makes dark fabrics hotter than light ones. This may cause your feet to sweat more...

I am not sure either but for the same reason I threw out all my husbands black socks,,Hmm it might be the dark color tends to produce more heat and retain it or because white is more breathable/cleaner?

the dye in the socks cause a chemical imbalance when your feet sweat, try only wearing white socks if you must wear dark ones try putting baking soda in your shoes next time. that should help. i have the same problem and that is the only thing that works for me.

Normal for any age (I'm significantly not 19)! Anyway, it has something to do with the dyes. The same thing will probably happen w/certain tee shirts. If you drink lemonades or citrus type drinks, it probably gets worse. You may even find that washing them alone is best. Use baking soda in the wash, it helps alot.

Black absorbs heat and the heat makes your feet sweat. SO aka your feet stink because of the heat making them sweat! Why do you think sports socks are white? THEY reflect heat yay!
