No, but if you mix cod liver oil with their food, (1 tsp once a week) it gives them a healthy, shiny coat and it is good for their skin.

I would NEVER put oil ON their skin unless they have a severe dry skin problem.

NO! It will make them sick!

if you would like to curb your dog's shedding, try brushing it with a specialty brush. Many have "razor" like teeth Thatt help pull out the dead hair.

Did you know tha shedding can be a sign of bad nutrition? Even minor shedding can be your dog's way of saying something is wrong. A quick trip to the vet for some tests will help. The vet can also prescribe something for your dog if the problem continues.

IAMS and Companies have product geared to "Help stop shedding". These foods can help, but they can also make your dog's belly go flip flop! Consult a vet to see which food might be best.

Finally, just like Humans, dog's can lose their hair when they are stressed out. Ask yourself if the problem has got worse lately? When did it start? Is your dog suffering from a form of depression? It can happen and many owners just don't see the signs. Shedding in the winter, depending on where you live, is not normal. Sadness, loneliness or boredom can make your dog's hair come out in clumps.

Adding fats to the diet will help. I am a groomer and I can tell you that nothing will stop the shedding completely. One of the best things to do is comtact a groojmer that uses a system called the Furminator. The shampoo and anti shed solution will loosen the hair and then a high velosity dryer is used to blow outthe loose coat. The final part is the use of a special tool that strips out more hair than a brush. It is very labor intensive and can be expensive, but the results are the best I've seen.

I think the person who must have told you about this trick got it wrong. You do not put the oil on the dog, you feed it to them. And, i do not think it works. You could end up with a dog that sheds and has diarhhea.

Try brushing your dog every day with a good doggie brush - your groomer may also have some suggestions on a type/style to use on a JRT

do not use oils as that will upset the dog's digestive tract...instead mix 1 raw egg in with the dog's wet food...if you do this once a day after a few weeks you will see the dog's coat getting thicker and fulller which will prevent shedding...do not do it more than 1X a day or the dog will start to get sick...discontineu if the dog has a negative reaction to the eggs, some are allergic...

It is natural for a dog to shed. If you want it to control the shedding then you have two choices...1. get rid of the dog or 2. brush it every day.

No, that will not work. Nothing can totally stop shedding, but I find that frequent grooming or brushing gets rid of the loose hair in one fell swoop so that at least it is not falling out all over the house.

Please do not try this. Your dog will have uncontrolled feces, and oily skin, but will still shed. Take your dog to be groomed, and ask the groomer the best way to brush your dog to take care of shedding.

As the owner of a smooth-coated JRT, I can tell you they shed...all of the time! Get a good brush, and get used to those little wire-like hairs being everywhere.....clothes, furniture, carpet, up your nose, in your own hair....the list goes on!
