I sincerely apologize for the misrepresentations of the Christian faith found in members and answers here on yahooanswers. I only hope a man who truly strives to live the life of Christ can answer your questions better than some of these misleaders, and I hope you look for answers in other places than this location. Future reference: if the answer is something you wouldn't expect from the mouth of Christ, it is not Christian. Feel free to vent frustrations, ask questions, or simple respond in your answers below...

Jeffrey, I accept your apology, but I have to tell you that you are committing the No True Scotsman fallacy here.

"if the answer is something you wouldn't expect from the mouth of Christ, it is not Christian"
A lot of atheists have studied the Bible and would know exactly what Christ would say given the writings of the Gospel authors.

Other than that, I'm glad that you recognize and acknowledge the intolerance going on and I hope that more Christians strive to take your example.

I make no apologies for the actions of any other non-Christians besides myself, as each one of us is responsible for ourselves.

I understand your frustrations with those that claim to represent your belief and spout hatred, intolerance and ignorance, and I feel the same about everyone that does so on YA.

Re: your future reference, I would not expect anything from the mouth of a person long dead, but given your source I get your point.

You need not apologize for actions that are outside of your control. Religion isn't the cause of the issue. I've said this before: People are people first, if they're of the mind to use something against others as a weapon to hurt others, claims of religion are just another excuse. Intelligent people who are wiser will know this and generally ignore them, or call them to task according to their ability.

I hold NO religion responsible for the actions of people.

Thank you. You are *exactly* why I try to qualify all responses about "Christians" with "some Christians." The majority have always struck me as kind people following a loving Jesus. The obnoxious ones, as with any group (political, racial, etc) give the rest a bad name.

Thank you for your kind apology, and only the simplest among us would be so foolish as to think the hatred and ignorance spewed by the simplest among you represents you all.
And speaking for myself, when I get smarmy here about Christians, it's aimed at the type like those posters who made you feel compelled to apologize, not nice folks like yourself.

While that wasn't a question... it was a very nice sentiment.

The world would be nicer if everybody could deal with religion the way you can, but just a couple of crazies (in all the faiths) manage to screw everything up.

Though it has been eliminated as a feature, you get a "thumbs up" anyway.

What to expect out of the mouth of Christ:

Difficult to understand parables?

Diatribes about believing he is unique as the son of God instead of a normal mortal as are we all?

Curses at fig trees that happen to have been picked bare?

Threats about wars, encouraging people to sell their cloaks and buy swords?

I know that there are things that Jesus said that are indeed lovely, but in the case of his theistic attributions about heaven, hell, God, and justice available in the next life, I think you assume you have something more rational than your more bellicose fellow believers.

And one final word: If belief in Jesus doesn't change those who hold it (except in the occasional placebo effect), what benefit comes to the world through Christianity?

Well said. It is time for good Christians to stand up and defend the peace loving, tolerant and inclusive teachings of Christ and repudiate the hate filled spouting of the zealots and extremists.
