this this the old debate of calvinism vs free will and there really is no answer. its like what came first the chicken or the egg. it doesnt even matter if you believe in god or not b/c god himself who created all things knows what you will do even before you do it. so does that mean you can change your mind and do something that wasnt already planned? if god knew and we didnt does that mean it was our fate and he planned it w/o our consent? i mean even god had his own fate- to die on the cross. now if you dont believe in god it doesnt matter b/c your fate and everyone elses is that we too will eventually die but the real question is- is there life after death? well the only true way to know is to die so noone can really say. but when we die at least if we die w/o proper burial much life comes from our dead bodies such as parasites and plants so is that life after death? it is but do we come back reincarnated as a parasite or a weed? see there just isnt an answer to your question while we live and maybe not after we die either. not to get all philosophical on you but its just the way it is.

I think the most important events: birth, marriage, death, are definitely foreordained. Even things that look like accidents aren't, although it takes a lot of faith to believe that. I came to the conclusion long ago that what we have the most control over is what we eat and how much we exercise or contact others around us. Sometimes it may be a matter of hours or days or weeks for certain things to happen. We have to learn to go where we need to go and do what we need to do to help our lives move forward, so goal-setting is still important. You notice I don't come out and say I believe in pre-destination, but yes, the major things were planned out very carefully in a time I would refer to as the premortal life, a la Mormon doctrine.

No, I don't believe in predestination. I believe we create our own fate by the choices we make and the actions we take.

Fate is the exact opposite of Karma.
Fate is the exact opposite of a "work ethic".
Fate is the exact opposite of all decision making.
Fate is the exact opposite of going to college in hopes of bettering your awareness and hopefully bettering your lot in life.
Fate is exactly opposite of "Your decisions and actions today will affect your circumstances tomorrow"
Well, I am very tempted to remark that "those who blame fate on their failures seem to "predestine*" themselves for future failures"
I used the term "predestine" as a mild joke.

yes i do. i believe things happen for a reason good or bad, there is always something to learn form that experience, but also i believe that we have the power to change our fate and the direction our lives take.

Belief in fate removes free choice. They are mutually exclusive.
