I like it. It shows respect. Be who you are and don't worry about what others think. There are plenty of women who will appreciate your thoughtfulness. :)

I remember the very first time a teenage boy said 'yes ma'am' to me, and I thought, oh my gosh, now I do look old...I don't think that's the right way to address/thank a girl, it really feels weird!

Well a girl who says is pretty stupid.Guys only say because either they raised saying that or they're just being a gentlemen to the girl.So if a girl says that to you agian then she doesn't know how a true guy would treat as a girlfriend.

I know you're trying to be respectful but stop it! You don't call a woman under 40 ma'am. You call her miss. Ma'am is for older women so when you call a young woman ma'am you really aren't being respectful.

Yeah, it makes me feel old when someone says it to me. I suggest only calling older ladies "ma'am", and younger ones "miss". I'm sure things will go a lot smoother for you if you do that. If you wanted to make the older ladies feel younger you could even call them miss, it might make their day.

Depends on the girl and how you say it.
If you're flirting with her, then it might not be such a big deal. If you just continue to say it, even when she asks you a simple question - it does kind of seem like you're making her look old and unattractive.

I think it's very respectful myself.
Having spent 6 weeks in the USA in 2001( I'm a Brit) I thought it was lovely. Couldn't get enough of it LOL

They're not just young, they're immature!
Grown up women understand the difference between polite, respectful language and being told she's old.
