Buddhism started in India. Buddha got his enlightenment under a tree in Gaya (in Bihar state) and the place is called BODH GAYA and the peepal tree is known as BODHI VRIKSHA. It had royal patronage at that time since Buddha came from a royal family. The religion was spread to several neighbouring Asian countries.Though it is followed in different countries it is not accepted in this country where it started.
The rituals they follow or more or less as per Hindu concepts. The basic principle is Buddhism do not accept VEDAS as base and preach Sunya theory that is Vacuum. They call that the God is a big vacuum. Whereas Hindu philosophy says God is a vibrant force with perpetual existence in blissful state. In India any theory not based on Vedas is not accepted. That is why Buddhism has to leave the country and find shelter elsewhere.

I am an Indian and an Iyer. Real Buddists are those who truly follow the teachings, living style of Buddha. For example, Buddha did not like anybody hurting others even by words, deeds or look. Buddha used to sympathise all the cruelity he visualised but in todays world, if Buddha existed he would be shedding tears every second for no man is ready to follow his ways of teaching.

I wonder why people like you still follow the religion and its rules even in this modern era. First teach every one that one is a human being. Even Buddha might have preached that all religions are equal. Let us be human beings and live like a family without the beariers of Religion etc.,. Then no one will think of even creating a atomic bomb for harmful purposes.

I'm not from India - but I don't follow Buddha because He didn't die for my sins and he is still in his grave. I want a living God who can forgive my sins and give me eternal life. Buddha and his teachings can't do that.

well well because i was born a hindu i continue to be a hindu!
btw why r u not a christian or a muslim or a hindu?!!

why be worried or be keen to convert in to some other relegion when god is one? why create these differences in the name of relegions?

all i believe is that god is one and being a good humanbeing is more important to me rather than being a humanbeing belonging to one particular relegion /race/caste.

and anyway all the principles of budhism are there in hinduisim and quite similiar too to hindusim.so no worry whether i am a budhist or a hindu?

in the end don't all relegions preach the same?

Just the other day I heard someone say that a Buddhist is into feeding the mind and working really hard to achieve nothingness. I thought that was just ridiculous.

I choose to serve Christ, the One who died to set me free from my own selfish life. He gives me purpose in life, I follow Him, serve others, love people, and in the end I get to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven . Sounds like a much better deal to me.
