so they don't scratch at their open wounds or stiches when they hurt their face or when they get their ears clipped they won't naw at them.

Depends upon what the intial problem is. But the definant answer is to protect them from damaging themselves.
Normally, the problem is on the hind end of the dog & they want to strach or chew at it. Sometimes it can be the ears or snout also.
A vet will try to avoid those cones, because they can be tough on a dog, and give the animal an injection to help with itching. This normally works. If not, it's cone time.

most dogs do not need a cone on their heads unless they have injured themselves in some way. The vet will put one on the dog to refeain the dog from biting the stiches or whatever is on the wound to heal it. Hope that helped.

They do that when dogs have had surgery or have some kind of chewing or licking issue. The cone keeps them from being able to chew on stitches or lick off medication.

Our canines purely had a cone on with the aid of fact he had knee surgical treatment. he's a lab, so he became a huge canines, and we placed his bowl interior the outlet of a tall plastic plant field. like those tress are available. it became approximately 2 and a nil.5 ft intense, and he became able to get his cone around it and eat out of the bowl purely great. so some thing like that. and we've an computerized waterer on our faucet, so as that wasn't a concern.

Dog's wear cones, after they have had surgery, or to stop them from biting an area, that's trying to heal. The cone is put there, so they can't get to it.

our lab needed a cone around his head because he had a cancerous growth removed from his front leg & it was the only way to get him to not lick at it .

If they have had surgery or something, they put them around there necks because than there heads can't bend around to lick/pull the stitches.

if they had surgery or something they are going to try to lick it and they need the cone so they wont hurt themselves again.

My pug got poisoned with rat killer,,,,,,,they had to put a cone around him to keep him from chewing his IV line,,,,,,,,,and chewing his cathader out. If you have had their ears trimmed or had tails docked its for the same reason to keep them from being able to chew the site,,,,,,,,,Good Luck
