Not sure if anyone has had experience with either breed, positive or negative. Some dogs do not affect me at all, with others - I cannot breathe after an hour or so around them. Trying to figure out if this would be a good dog for me. Any thoughts?

if you want to not have allergies to dogs bathed them in distilled water about every other week or so it works on all dogs so you don't have to worry about allergies
GOOD LUCK

Labs and Akitas tend to have bad pet dander where a small parasitic fungus gets onto their skin and causes them to flake. Most people with dog allergies are allergic to the dander that comes through the large breeds. If you like the look of the dog and want it even though you may get allergy problems just wash the dog with T/gel and it may clear the problem up. T/gel is a Nutrogena product that works well with dogs, even though it is made for humans. Wash the dog once a week and it should cause the allergies to lessen as well as brushing their pelt once a week down to their skin. This will make the dog look healthier as well as help with your allergy problem. The dog will become well behaved, also, if it gets this attention on a regular basis.

you can test this out for your self if after a hour then you feel affected then it is not the pet for you. but as a rule this breed is not for folks with allergies

That is not good for you and will hurt you in the long run. If you want a dog, look for dogs like poodle, airdales, maltese, yorkies, etc.
