Midnight is 0000 hours, because that's when the clock resets for the new day. If you used 2400 then one minute later people would expect it to be 2401, and so forth. But one minute after midnight is actually 0001, and so on, until you reach 2359 and it starts all over again.
I generally hear people refer to midnight a zero-hundred hours, and thereafter it's zero-hundred-one, and so on, until one o'clock when people start saying oh-one-hundred. There's not really an "offical" way to refer to the time, just so long as you use the 24-hour clock as your frame of reference.
Old joke: What's the "oh" stand for in "oh-four-hundred hours"? Oh my God, it's early!

The time starts at midnight at the beginning of the day.
The 24 hour clock reduces errors because every hour is uniquely named and not dependent on a following appendage (am pm) that might get lost in static. Talking ahead, you normally say 2400 ("groups will leave on the hour at 2300 and 2400 hours.") Scheduling or reporting, the 0000 form is more likely - "Zero Hundred Hours on the 14th begins the day"
Adding Oh means that all the times are about the same length the single digit times (1-9 being Oh Nine, etc.) the others being Twelve, Sixteen, etc.
The hundred is said on the hour to make clearer that something is missing if it not heard. Saying Oh Four Hundred Hours is precise while saying Four Hours is sloppy. Similarly Oh Five Oh Six (0506) accounts for all the verbal spaces. Saying Five Six Hours might be 0056 or 0506. The time is said as 4 digits all the time in carefull communications.

Now you got me confused and I know it.
AM is the same 1-12
Then 1 o clock starts 13:00 first is hours the second is minutes
so 1:15 Would be shown as 13:15
2 is 14:00 hours
3 is 15:00 hours
4 is 16:00 hours
11 is 23:00 hours The minutes displayed is shown as 11:15 would be shown as 23:15
12 is 24:00 hours any minutes after that is the next day.
[12:15 would be shown as 12:15 AM]
They pronounce it as twenty four hundred hours. 24:00
That is 12 midnight
They don't use the AM or PM because it would be on a 24 hour clock. I used that to show what I meant.

12:00 midnight is 2400 hours. One minute after midnight is 0001 hours (zero zero zero one hours). There is no "0000".

2400 hours and 0000 hours can be used both ways. The oh in 0600 hours is a zero, but it also
can be said both ways. In the military, as far as
2400 hours is concerned, in order to be brief
in communications, we usually say zero hours!!

You will hear it both ways. When in the Marine Corps in the early 80s, we used 24oo. They say o 600 because it is shorter than saying zero six hundred, thats it.

it all depends on how u are saying it. 2400 is normally used to end out the day and 0001 is used to start out the day. and the 0 was placed there to make sure no confusion between 6 am and 6 pm for new recruits
