You both don't have to be catholic for the priest to bless your union. Since he's Catholic, and you arn't, you're still able to be married in a Catholic Church, just as long as one of you have been baptised Catholic. A blessing has nothing to do with you making promises to the church either. The priest may possibly say something along the lines of:
May God the eternal Father, keep you in love with each other,
so that the peace of Christ may stay with you and be always in your home.
R - Amen
May your forthcoming children bless you,
your friends console you and all men live in peace with you.
R - Amen
May you always bear witness to the love of God in this world so that the afflicted and the needy will find in you generous friends and welcome you into the joys of Heaven.
R - Amen
May almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
R - Amen
R is response by the congregation.
If you would rather something a little more easy going:
May God, the almighty Father, give you his joy and bless you.
R - Amen
May the only Son of God have mercy on you and help you in good times and in bad.
R - Amen
May the Holy Spirit of God always fill your hearts with his love.
R - Amen
May almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
R- Amen.
There are no promises to be made, nothing to be afraid of. A blessing is just that, a wellwishing. These are final blessings that could be given. There are also nuptual blessings that can be quite lengthly and beautiful, but I don't know if they would be right for you since you're not too keen on the idea in the first place.
I'm kind of confused though, if you're getting married in a Catholic Church though, if you are, you're going to have the Catholic blessings and sacraments. You can personally speak to him though and just explain that you would like a brief blessing of your marriage. Many priests who know the couple will bless them with a personal blessing.
Good luck :)

It depends on the priest - just ask him if he has any issue with you not being catholic but wishing to accept the wedding blessing and what he thinks. If he is younger he will not have a problem but a very strict one may. It really depends on the priest - you can always explain you are doing this for his family and although you respect their religion and they yours. Good Luck!

Your bf will go have to talk to his parish priest about this. Hope you and he have talked long and hard about how you are going to raise the children, etc. because Catholics tend to want to raise Catholic children.
Usually, if you get married and blessed by a Catholic priest, the person who is not Catholic must agree to raise the children in the Catholic faith. You learn more about this in the premarital counselling.

The blessing is only for a happy and healthy future for the couple. He will be asking everyone to bless the couple as well, if they chose. it is apart of the catholic ceremony. I have been to wedding that have this blessing....Be warned marriage will be in the blessing but the bless encompasses other things as well.

This is definitely something you should be talking about before the wedding. Even if religion isn't important to you now, if you are going to have children together, it might become an issue later. I would suggest that the two of you meet with your fiance's priest and talk it out with him.

Sounds like our situation exactly. We were married in my church but he is catholic. My minister married us but we had a priest there who said a prayer and contributed to the ceremony. It can be done. Talk to both your minister and his priest. (That was the only way his mother would attend our wedding.)
