There is some decent information in this thread, but to dispell a couple myths-

-The recipe for their flagship beer is a fairly new one, and it's very doubtful that the style to which it is brewed even dates back to the time of Adams.
-Jim Koch, current operator/owner of the BBC (Boston Beer Company) has no link to any of the revolutionary men from that era. The recipe, in fact, is probably closely related to that of the original brew made by one of his descendants around 1860.
-Sam Adams may have brewed beer in his time, but his primary involvment with beer was that his family operated a malting facility. That is, they turned barley from the fields into various grains that could be utilized by proper brewers.

Sam Adams used to brew beer (actually he was really bad at it). The founder of the modern day Sam Adams company, Tim Koch, decided to give the beer a famous name. It helps that it's brewed in New England, so it gives it a local credibility, I guess.

Either way, the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat is the best beer in the world.

why is anything named anything????? because it was the personal preference of the the person naming it.

seems like with any of these kind of questions, you need to ask the person who had the preference, not the general public.

besides, do you know how much false information is disseminated on a site like this that is accessible by any and everyone with no credentials whatsoever?

and if you can't access that person, maybe you have more important things to do.
