A relationship is how one person relates to and with another. It can be anything from acquaintances to lovers. A friendship is just one type of relationship. You probably think of relationships as being only those that are more than friendships, though. Both involve two people interacting with each other in a close and personal way, where the well being of the other matters to them. Or it should.

Edit: Because he probably defines a relationship as only being that of two people involved physically with each other. You need to have him tell you how he defines a relationship before you can figure out a way to communicate how you define one.

Well tell him a relationship is not just an arrangement to have sex and make babies. It is also a bond and friendship. It is exactly like friendship * 100 because we have hormones and instincts that make having a relationship very important. So what may not be a big deal amongst friends is a big deal with a relationship. You have to treat a relationship almost exactly as a friendship because otherwise you will never work out. It is like a very special friendship.

Although they are really the same. "The Best Relationships. Do start off as Friendships". It's the safest way to make sure of a lasting relationship. But I do have Friends, That I don't have a relationship with.

One is not mutually exclusive of the other. You have to define relationship, I'll assume you mean dating. The only time that they are similar is when you are in a "relationship" with someone, ideally they are your best friend. But being a friend with someone doesn't necessarily mean that you are in a relationship. Just because you like the guy doesn't mean that you are in that type of a relationship. Hope you understand. Good luck.

I wonder at such a question .All friendships are relationships but not all relationships are friendships. You have a relationship with teachers , grocery store clerks, and all of society.Today some speak of relationships being closer than friendships. As in lets have a sexual relationship. What some think and mean are certainly not dictionary definitions. So tell him what you mean and let him tell you what he believes it means . and sort it out that way.

A friendship is a relationship. They are not "sorta" the same, they are directly related.

It's like reffereing to a car and a truck as a vehicle. They both are.

They are different Sweetie. A friendship is just that, friends. Although, if you love your friend, in a nonsexual way, it could be considered a relationship. That goes for family, you have a relationship with them, and with a significant other. I guess you have to love the person in order to have a relationship.

You should try to be cautious when you try to transpose these two terms.
The term "FRIEND" is an overly used term (in the USA) that conveys a mutually social agreement.
Whereas "RELATIONSHIP" conveys a more DEEP commitment.
To instill the POLITICALLY CORRECT verbiage, try to understand the suttle differences in these and many English terms.
