My chemistry teacher read it and recommended it to me. From what I heard it is an excellent piece, and I would like to buy it in the near future. By the way, when does Dawkins not make religious fanatics look bad? ;)

The truth is usually pretty convincing. People will believe the truth without having to have a person propose the idea of eternal damnation, or promise them eternal paradise. They just need the facts and that's what this book gives and I believe if a religous person read it with normal intelligence, even if they were severely brainwashed, they would realize how illogical religion is, and that a dictator sitting in the sky has nothing to do with spirituality.

Dawkin's book 'selfish Gene' is a one sided look at the benefits of Atheism and its unbreakable bond to science that has contributed to society and Religion and the way it has stunted growth for centuries.
What dawkins has done is he took every single contribution of science and all of the greatest atheist who ever walked this earth and compared them to all of the religious fanatics, wars that were waged on behalf of religion, and every single thing bad about religion.
Dawkins comparison is completly one sided. Comparing the very best of one thing with the very worst of another is like comparing the taste of Good Food with the Taste of Urine and crap.
Dawkin's forgets that the WWI and WWII were not religious wars. Hitler attempted to prove scientifically that his race was the best and he tried to experiment with the Jewish people so that he could prove that there are elements in there body that make them inferior. There is an entire scientific theory research report done on this during WWII.
And lets not forget the other wars. The Civil War, Korea, Vietnam, and the first war in Iraq were all resource money, or non-religous wars. All of these wars combined were not mentioned the number of deaths caused by them outrank the crusades and all of the conquest made by the Muslim and Christian Empires.
Dawkins comparison is simply too one sided.... . . .

While your at it pick up a copy of the book Evolution a theory in crisis by agnostic Michael Denton, another great eye opener is the icons of evolution by Jonathan Wells. This book will help make you question why many of the things being taught in school about evolution are knowingly fraudulent and yet they keep on appearing in science textbooks despite the fact that they are either known to be fraudulent or at best highly questionable. That is if reading these books doesn't cause you to lose your faith. I welcome thumbs down but predictably by those who will never expose themelves to anything outside their comfort zone.

The emphasis is on the second word there. The gene. I have not read it but it is covered some in 'The God Delusion'. He feels that it is a left over byproduct from something else. Compare it to vestigial organs or a moth's 'apparent' desire to fly into a flame.

The Da Vinci Code had the same effect. Those people who have not read the Bible, can be lead by the nose from any author that can write a sentence. There are many people that do not take any of these authors seriously because they are stating their own opinion in a book.

Well its mostly about evolution. It does make religious beliefs look a bit dumb but then that's not hard really is it.
If you want to hear Dawkins go all out on religion then just pick up 'the god delusion'

Dawkins is a master in his field.....no one can come up with better explanations for our natural world than the astounding revelations in evolution that we have opened our eyes to which is backed by testable evidence and sweet logic.

I doubt that a book written by an avowed Atheist on the subject of evolution would shake the faith of born-again believers.
I hope you enjoy it as much as you think you will, to me it is a bunch of rubbish.
