Three weeks in the first year, then it increases. The Force now acknowledges overtime ... for many years it did not in the same way that the armed forces don't pay overtime (I hope they never do ... service in the armed forces is not a job, but a way of life.)

As with all police forces, if you are squeamish about time off and shiftwork, then don't join.

This isn't exactly an answer to your question but you should go to one of the recruiting information sessions. They are free, but you need to bring photo id and your birth certificate. They give you tons of information and have people who can answer your questions and other people there may ask a question you haven't thought of yet.

I've been thinking of joining as well.

To find out when there is a session in your area just go to the RCMP website. http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/recruiting/regular_member_e.htm
