Cows, chickens, pigs, we murder them at an alarming rate everyday, because "god" made us omnivores and we need to eat meat. So we have to murder every single day just to live. Isn't this a no-win situation? Is god setting us up so we all go to hell, because we are all murderers? Or is god just fiction and this is another silly argument?

So god says it's ok to kill animals? So I should be able to run over cats and shoot dogs and squeeze hamsters until they are dead, right? god says this is a good thing? Or is there something in the bible that says "thou canst kill thoseth animals that might feed or clothest thou in any way thoust desire, but darent not thou kill thine cute kitty cats and doggies"?

God commanded "Thou shalt not kill" without qualification. Those who say that kill only means murder are implying that God did not know which word to use. In Genesis, Chapter 1, verses 26-29, God clearly details what is to be considered food. It was Augustine who interpreted the word kill to apply only to other people. Other people say man was given dominion over the animals. Yes, dominion means protection. It is the responsibility of the state to protect the citizens. Animals are also citizens of the state, but they are offered no protection. The state is killing its own citizens. If you want to know how civilized a society is, then look at the way it treats the animals in that society.

There is tendency for eating meat. Therefore Vedas says that "You can eat meat, but..." Not only Vedas, in other scriptures also. The Jews also say. The Mohammedans also say that you can kill in the synagogue or in the, what is called, mosque, one animal. But not slaughterhouse. No religion prescribes that you open slaughterhouse. No.

Animal sacrifice in the name of religion is current practically all over the world in every established religion. It is said that Lord Jesus Christ, when twelve years old, was shocked to see the Jews sacrificing birds and animals in the synagogues and that he therefore rejected the Jewish system of religion and started the religious system of Christianity, adhering to the Old Testament commandment "Thou shalt not kill." At the present day, however, not only are animals killed in the name of sacrifice, but the killing of animals has increased enormously because of the increasing number of slaughterhouses. Slaughtering animals, either for religion or for food, is most abominable and is condemned herein. Unless one is merciless, one cannot sacrifice animals, either in the name of religion or for food.

Therefore Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu challenged the Muslim Kazi, “What kind of religious principle do you follow by killing your father and mother to eat them?” In any civilized human society, no one would dare kill his father and mother for the purpose of eating them. Therefore Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu challenged the system of Muslim religion as patricide and matricide. In the Christian religion also, a principal commandment is “Thou shalt not kill.” Nevertheless, Christians violate this rule; they are very expert in killing and in opening slaughterhouses. In our Krsna consciousness movement, our first provision is that no one should be allowed to eat any kind of flesh. It does not matter whether it is cows’ flesh or goats’ flesh, but we especially stress the prohibition against cows’ flesh because according to çästra the cow is our mother. Thus the Muslims’ cow-killing was challenged by Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu.

“Närada Muni continued, ‘All the animals that you have killed and given unnecessary pain will kill you one after the other in your next life and in life after life.’

Here is another authoritative statement made by the great sage Närada. "Those who kill animals and give them unnecessary pain—as people do in slaughterhouses—will be killed in a similar way in the next life and in many lives to come."

One can never be excused from such an offense. If one kills many thousands of animals in a professional way so that other people can purchase the meat to eat, one must be ready to be killed in a similar way in his next life and in life after life. There are many rascals who violate their own religious principles. According to Judeo-Christian scriptures, it is clearly said, “Thou shalt not kill.”

Nonetheless, giving all kinds of excuses, even the heads of religions indulge in killing animals while trying to pass as saintly persons. This mockery and hypocrisy in human society bring about unlimited calamities; therefore occasionally there are great wars. Masses of such people go out onto battlefields and kill themselves. Presently they have discovered the atomic bomb, which is simply waiting to be used for wholesale destruction. If people want to be saved from the killing business life after life, they must take to Krsna consciousness and cease sinful activity.

The International Society for Krishna (God) Consciousness recommends that everyone abandon meat-eating, illicit sex, intoxication and gambling. When one gives up these sinful activities, he can understand Krsna and take to this Krsna consciousness movement. We therefore request everyone to abandon sinful activity and chant the Hare Krsna mantra. In this way people can save themselves from repeated birth and death and from being killed like the animals in slaughterhouses.

The Bible says "Do not Murder"

There is a distinct difference between murder and killing. Slaughter of animals or killing of vegetation for physical needs is killing.

Unjustified killing of a human is murder.

There are two seperate Hebrew words that clearly show this. The Hebrew word used in the 10 Commandments is Do Not Murder.

The Hebrew:
רָצַח / rasah
8357 רָצַח (ratsach): v.; ≡ Str 7523; TWOT 2208—LN 20.61-20.88 (qal) murder, kill, i.e., take the life one another so as to cause a state of death (Ex 20:13; Nu 35:6, 11, 12, 16(2×),17(2×),18(2×),19, 21(2×),25, 26, 27(2×),28, 30(2×),31; Dt 4:42(2×); 5:17; 19:3, 4, 6; 22:26; Jos 20:3, 5, 6; 21:13, 21, 27, 32, 38; 1Ki 21:19; Job 24:14; Jer 7:9; Hos 4:2+), note: this action can refer to an accident, manslaughter, premeditation, or governmental execution; (nif) murdered, be killed (Jdg 20:4; Pr 22:13+); (piel) murder, kill (Ps 62:4[EB 3]; 94:6; Hos 6:9+), note: for piel ptcp. as a noun in 2Ki 6:32; Isa 1:21, see 5344.5

And the Hebrew Term for "Slaughter/Kill" that is a differnet word and occurs 85 times in the OT.

: שָׁחַט, שָׁחַט, שַׁחֲטָה / šahat, šahǎtah
8821 I. שָׁחַט (shachat): v.; ≡ Str 7819; TWOT 2362—LN 20.61-20.88 (qal) slaughter, kill, i.e., take the life of a creature, implying the object being killed offers little or no resistance as in a battle or contest (Ge 22:10; 37:31; Ex 12:6, 21; 29:11, 16, 20; 34:25; Lev 1:5–22:28 passim; Nu 14:16; 19:3; Jdg 12:6; 1Sa 1:25; 14:32, 34(2×); 1Ki 18:40; 2Ki 10:7, 14; 25:7; 2Ch 29:22(3×),24; 30:15; 35:1, 6, 11; Ezr 6:20; Isa 22:13; 57:5; 66:3; Jer 39:6(2×); 41:7; 52:10(2×); Eze 16:21; 23:39; 40:39, 41, 42; 44:11+), note: for a focus on offering to deity by killing, see LN 53.16–53.27; (qal pass.) killed, be slaughtered, dead (Lev 14:6, 51+); (nif) slaughtered (Lev 6:18(2×)[EB 25(2×)]; Nu 11:22+), note: for another pointing of text in Jer 9:7[EB 8], see 8822, 8759

There are two other words that are used frequently. I will post information about them at your request or you can EMAIL me or ADD me to your Messanger if you want to discuss.

No sorry there is not Biblical passages in regards to kitties and doggies. LoL As I was researching the term kill it seems to always either to refer to sacrifice, or for food. The Bible does not address specificall the killing of animals for "fun." Yet by principle the Bible speaks against such things. One such principle, "Love your Neighbor, as yourself."

You don't have to eat anything. You can survive quite well as a vegan. There's no need to eat meat, though it's a lot easier to get protein and certain nutrients from animal products. But humans are creative and good scientists, and we can figure out ways to get nutrition without meat if that's important to us.

God doesn't set us up. We're judged by how well we do in the situation we've been placed in--if we were in a perfect world, there would be no temptation to sin. But we're not. So do the best you can and see how things shake down.

...I guess we have to slaughter cows, chickens, etc, since they don't take kindly to being cooked while alive - they just won't cooperate, otherwise.
...Fortunately, the animals are not complaining.
...The Bible says that after the Fall of man, God gave us the plants and animals for food, so don't sweat it.
...We are all bound for Hell without being "set up" - observe:
...Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." We are all sinners.
...Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death"
...Exodus 34:7b - "He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished." The Bible tells us God is a just judge and must punish sin.
...Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast. We cannot work for our salvation.
...John 1:1 - "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" Jesus is God in the flesh
...1 Corinthians 15:3-4 "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried, and raised on the 3rd day according to the Scriptures" Jesus paid the penalty for our sins, died, and was raised on the 3rd day.
...So what's to do? Believe on Him.
...Acts 16:31 "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved..."
...If I were you, I wouldn't wait until my last breath to find out whether or not God is "fiction" - I challenge you to examine the claims of Jesus Christ and then decide who He is - either He is a liar, a lunatic, a legend, or He is Lord and God, and the only way to God.
...Believe on Christ while you can.
...Whosoever will, may come.

Whoa -- whole bunch of false assumptions, there, buddy.

The word that's translated as "kill" in that commandment actually means, "Thou shalt do no murder." Murder is legally limited to human beings.

God didn't make us omnivores, nor do we "need" to eat meat. This is one vegetarian who gets along quite nicely without it, thanks.

So the only thing that's fictitious and/or silly is this question. It's a prize example of the spurious arguements that some non-believers use to attempt to discredit believers. It only makes the asker look foolish.

First of all, many vegetarian people survive just fine. We don't HAVE to kill the animals. Second, according to the religions believing in the Old testament, not killing refers to other humans. I know there is no reason why we are allowed to kill the animals, but if your argument is religious, then the answer comes from religion too.

God didnt say you shall not kill but he said ''You shall not murder''.
Kill means put a man to dead without having any personal fight with that man but murder means killing a man for personal feelings and for selfish needs. But killing is also A worst sin according to Bible in the new testment as Jesus christ said ''Love your enimies''.

ok first of all God is NOT fiction!!! ok people have a body and a soul. thats the way God craeted us. but animals dont have souls. they just have bodies. people have consciences and animals dont. animals have instincts.God said that we are over the animals and we can control them...get what i mean? so we wont go to hell just because we killed an animal! God made animals for us to eat from. we dont have to kill them all but we can just to provide food for ourselves.God wants us to go to heaven and live with him when we die. but if we kill another human then we will lose all of our grace from God and we will go to hell if we do kill them. But if we go to war and fight and kill. that is the only exception. we are fighting to defend the country. so you cant say that God is setting us up for saying we need meet to live. and if that were true(if you kill animals you would go to hell),which is not , that person would go to hell not you for eating it! but we have power over the animals and the plants so itsnot a sin to kill them. i hope this isnt confusing
