my 7 month old son just got his hearing aids yesterday. he was fine when we put them in yesterday but today it seems like they hurt him whenever we push on them a little to make sure they are in tight. i figure he needs some kind of lube. the doctor said not to use something, but i don't remember. what can i use as a lube and what can't i use as a lube?

There is a product called "oto-ease" to help get the molds in the ears, but you want to make sure that there are no actual sore spots, which would indicate that the molds need to be modified or remade. Either way, you should go back to the audiologist.

Chances are they fit fine, but they are most likely going to hurt his ears a bit and take a bit of getting used to. They are not like a cork, they have to fit properly, not tightly. Our son has been wearing his aids for 6 years and on the odd occasion he will complain they just don't feel right.
If the ear doctor says 'no lube', then listen. You will wreck the plastic on the molds.
One quick tip-- Don't use HOT water to clean the mold or the tube or they will go hard. I learned this the hard way.

never heard of using a lube. he takes them out to nap or sleep at night doesn't he? don't push them in so far, they won't fall out.

I would contact the doctor. Only he or she knows best.
