Dude, Argentina has everything. I was there in December and January (2006-2007). I loved it. I visited Buenos Aires and Bariloche. I'll divide it up by cities:
1. Buenos Aires: completely cosmopolitan capital city. Beautiful architecture. It feels like youre walking down Paris or Madrid. You can visit many neighborhoods like Palermo SoHo (for excellent shopping and great food), and San Telmo (for antique shopping). You can visit the Casa Rosada, the Argentinian equivalent of the White House (it's pink). The nightlife is great, and the cafés are awesome. You'll find little plazas everywhere. Go to La Recolecta as well, you'll find nice restaurants and nice shops.
2. Bariloche: it's about a 2 hour plane ride from Buenos Aires in Patagonia. They have beautiful lake Nahuel Huapi and snow-covered mountains. You can ski, snowboard and all that. You can go on boats and do some fly fishing. There's a great nightlife, as well as great restaurants. There are canopy tours, horseback rides, everything. It's really awesome.
3. El Calafate: They have glaciers there! I've heard it's a great trip to see cold weather animals (penguins, sea lions, even whales)
4. Punta del Este: Super famous beach spot. The nightlife is excellent.

Hubby and I will be in Chile next month and plan to go over the Andes to Mendoza, Argentina to shop for leather goods and enjoy the cafes and other shops. He lived in Buenos Aires when he was in his 20's and is anxious to revist this big city.
