Place the perch in the henhouse high up near the roof. A cockerel has to stretch it's neck up to crow. If it is near the roof it cannot do this. Also, ensure that the henhouse is completely blacked out. They crow when they see the first glimmer of dalylight in the early hours. Black out the windows, close the door and this should help. If it is a new cockerel he will call often for the first couple of weeks to proclaim his presence in a new territory and learn from answering crows, what other males live in the area.

GOOD GRIEF - don't lower the height of its pen! How would YOU like to go around with a ceiling only 4' tall?! Not good for your bird. If the crowing bothers you, I would consider finding some other home for the rooster, or an inevitable part of farm life - putting him on the table. If there are other roosters around (your own or neighbor's), they will crow back and forth to one another and that will keep a rooster "talkative". Maybe just keep hens if you don't like the noise?

They only crow when they are standing tall so where you keep them at night make the roof lower so that they can still walk around but cannot stand tall.

To crow, the bird has to stretch it`s neck, If you lower the height of the ceiling of the coop, it won`t be able to stretch to crow.

Personal experience says you don't. You can only give them away if the noise bothers you or (not to sound rude) make some chicken soup to permenantly solve the noise issue.
