They are sanctioning bodies. WAY back in the day there was no real world champion until either. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing#Marquess_of_Queensberry_rules_.281867.29 say Gentleman Jim Corbette was the first champ, "The first world heavyweight champion under the Queensberry Rules was "Gentleman Jim" Corbett, who defeated John L. Sullivan in 1892 at the Pelican Athletic Club in New Orleans."

However http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_L._Sullivan#Championships is an interesting read too.

What I am getting at is there has NEVER been a "World Champion" in boxing really until recently. And even when there was a "World Champion" in the early days, he had to be a white American. Doesn't seem like a "world" title if ONLY people of Euro decent (global minority) can be "the champ".

Even though there was Jack Johnson. I personally think REAL WORLD championship heavyweight boxing started with Max Schmeling(Fitzsimmons was English). But even at that point, it was still the NBA (NY Boxing Association). John L. Sullivan was the Police Gazzette Champion... a friggin' magazine... talk about paper champ. Prior to 1921, champions were acknowledged by the public at large. A champion in that era was a fighter who had a notable win over another fighter and kept winning afterward. Retirements or disputed results could lead to a championship being split among several men for periods of time.

But even though there was the Gazzette, NBA, during the Dempsey-Carpentier the WBA started. There have always been factions. No one can monopolise boxing. Ali lost his WBA belt when he decided to rematch Liston. Snactioning bodies can do that.

If you want to blame someone for this fiasco. Blame it on Lennox Lewis. He was talking big game until Vitali Klitchsko lost on an unlucky match. Then Lennox, the linneal champ retired. Then Klitchsko backed out too again Rahman. Rahman beat Lennox once. Maskiev beat Rahman twice, who Vitali was afraid of. Lennox was afraid of Vitali's rematch. To me, Maskiev is champ, he is WBC. Due to the closest thing we have to linneage these days.

No "organization" can say who the "champ" is. The big four recognize their own. And there are SEVERAL smaller factions, IBO for instance. Recognise your own. After all, it's ALWAYS been a sham. Ali-Foreman 2 would have had a majorly different result. Holmes should have also got a crack during Ali's 2nd reign. Ali never would have been a 3 time champ had ne not lost, then defeated 7-0-1 Spinks. That don't count because there were SEVERAL fighters who would have beaten him at that stage. There will always be polotics in boxing.

ALL THESE ORGANIZATIONS MAKE MONEY FROM SANCTIONING CHAMPIONSHIP BOUTS AND LICENSING FIGHTERS.

EDIT:
I SEE WE HAVE SOMEONE TRYING TO PASS THEIR OPINIONS OFF AS FACT.
