i have got a bette computer, 2 infact one on xp and one xp media centre buti have just remebered about my old laptop. which is on on 98!!!

Some people say that windows 98 is the best operating system. I somewhat agree on that 1 as it is very stable but my advice is if you want windows live messenger then you upgrade ur operating system to windows xp. Install all of the updates that are available. You can then change the theme of xp to look and feel like windows 98. You cannot have it any other way im afraid.

Not directly. What I would recommend is, try and install the New Messenger, see what errors you get, and see if there is a way around those errors; Worth a try, Windows 98 is still a Good OS, especially Windows 98 SE

Its my guess that its not the application you want but the names and files that come within it
you can save my received files and what ever messenger you use they will read the files

i think MS have stopped supporting 98 it might be the problem
