A less messy alternative to Vaseline is a product called "Aquaphilic". It is very thick so it is considered an ointment, but if you apply just enough to cover the area, and rub it all the way in, it will completely absorb much more quickly than Vaseline. You can buy a 1 lb jar for about $9 at Wal-mart, and it will last you 6mos-1year! If you can't find it, ask a pharmacist. If they do not carry it, they can order it for you (does NOT require a prescription.) This is very high quality cream, originally formulated by dermatologists at the University of Iowa for the driest skin conditions.
