depends on the program, but in word you move the little tabs on the top

In Microsoft Word you can do the following:
-Go to file
-Go down to page setup
-There should be a tab that says margins, all of them are there for you to change

assuming software is Microsoft Word for Windows..
Go to the following Menu
File --> Page Setup..
You can set top, bottom, right, left as well as gutters here.

Try the first answer but make it the default if you don't want to change it every time. by clicking the Default button. The default in Word is:
Left: 1.25 in
Right: 1.25 in
Top:1 in
Bottom: 1 in
