I am writing in a Microsoft Word document, if that has any bearing on it. I was told to highlight the word, go to Tools and from drop-down menu select Macro. There it gives me a sub-menu which I chose Record New Macro and from there it leads me into a merry chase. Help?

you dont need to write a macro in Microsoft Word.

Try using the Search facility by pressing "Ctrl+F" i.e the "Ctrl" and the "F" key simultaneously.

A Window will popup where you can input the word you want to search. It also has the facility to highlight the word being searched.

Go to start/control panel/keyboard/key settings and see if you have any programmable key and do it there.
