I am writing in Microsoft Word document, it that has any bearing on it. I was told to highlight the word, go to Tools and from drop-down menu select Macro. There it gives me a sub-menu which I chose Record New Macro and from there it leads me into a merry chase. Help?

I haven't used the Macro program, but gave it a quick 30 sec try, and I think I came up with it.

Ok, first of all, you don't need to highlight word before hitting Macro.

I hit Record New Macro. I left the default name as Macro 1.
Now I have two keys to push, Toolbars and Keyboard. I chose Keyboard because I figured you want to do some sort of text replacement. As soon as I hit Keyboard, I get another menu, Customize Keyboard. While my cursor is in the Press New Shortcut key: box, I hit a key like Alt + S. Then I hit the Assign key bottom left. Thats it. Now hit the Close button

Immediately after clicking the Close button, you'll see a little tiny box appear, with a square (stop button), two II (pause). When you are done recording your macro, just hit the Square button.

But don't hit done recording just yet, you haven't told it what to record yet. Now just type something on your document. I Typed ABC. Now I hit the stop record button. Now when I hit Alt+S keys, it types ABC. I guess you can pick the Toolbar button at the beginning if you wanted Alt+S to do something different than type letters out.

Good luck, like I said, first time trying it, but was hoping to get you a little furthur along.

Go to start/control panel/keyboard/key settings and see if you have any programmable key and do it there.
