If you just want to tone down the onion taste, toss a potato or two in there for a little while while. You can cut them in halves or quarters, just make sure you know how many you put in so you can fish them back out. The potato will absorb the flavor.

Adding other spices may camouflage the onion, but it will also make for a more intense soup.

Potato will do it - the starch will pull it out - just be sure to toss it after you boil it.
