Go to YAHOO! and type in "dog breed selector" Several questionnaires will come up. They will ask you about your lifestyle and preferences. This should give you a good idea about the breed good for you. Once you get it narrowed down, go to akc.com and look at the breed standard. then you may want to volunteer at a shelter or rescue so you can meet the dogs in person and see if you connect. Another resource might be to go to a dog show. Whatever you do, don't go to a pet shop or a backyard breeder

If you live in an apartment or you don't have enough time to walk the dog and play with it regularly, and you don't have a lot of money for it, then get a small dog or just wait for the perfect time. If you have a lot of time, responsibility, and love, and money at that, then you should have no problem with a medium to large sized dog. the breed in it's self doesn't really matter, although dogs can be categorized by breed, for instance, Labradors are supposed to be great family dogs, I used to breed them, and I had a few that we had to put down because they were so aggressive and untrainable. All I can say is do your research and ask questions.

You should get a Border Collie, or a Jack Russell terrier and name it "teacher". These breeds are known for being quite intelligent.... So intelligent, in fact, that the dog could probably teach you to spell correctly. Good luck!

It depends on the situation. Listed are some really nice breeds:
cavalier king charles spaniels: great family pets, good size, usually very nice and submissive
border collies/aussies/cattle dogs: amazingly loyal, good for agility, but careful:if you don't train them correctly or don't give enough exercise, you'll have a bad dog
golden retrievers: nice for the 3 times a wk walk, undemanding, great family dogs, submissive.
dachsunds, shitzus: great travel companions, low maintenance, submissive
greyhounds/whippets: great companions, good for short walks
sweetest things EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
dogs to NOT get:
chihuahuas, yorkies, papillons: YIPPER DOGS THAT WILL DRIVE YOU CRAZY
rhodesion ridgeback: these are great dogs, but are not for the beginner handler/trainer

I like Boxers! They are great family members that are loyal and protective. They are great with kids. Not to big, not to small. As for a name you could call it Laylal or Buster.
Good Luck choosing!
