I was given prozac for depession 2 weeks ago. and i have stopped cutting myself.
it has been going well but now i have started cutting again coz i feel i have no more control over my feelings anymore.

i think it's because i am not used to being happy for most of the time.
should i tell my psychiatrist about my cutting?

Hi

Absolutely and without a doubt - and as soon as possible... not later... now.

Your psychiatrist needs to know about anything like this... you should probably read some information about prozac because there are all sorts of things you need to be aware of (in the warnings section of the the link provided in sources.)

It is also likely that the Prozac has not reached its full therapeutic effect yet too - typically it can take as long as four weeks... so this is even more reason to check with your psychiatrist.

Please call them.

Good luck.

Yes. You should definitely tell him about the cutting. Your psychiatrist needs to know about these things so 'he' can monitor how you are getting on.

I understand the urge to cut...I really do, I have been there. Make sure that when you cut, you use something sterile, don't cut too deep and always wash it out and put antiseptic on. You know that I'm NOT advising you to continue cutting but it's just that I know how hard it can be not to do it...so best do it safely.

When you start to get feelings that you want to cut...THAT is the time you need to tell someone and try to distract yourself because that thought can quickly develop into a strong irresistible urge.

Two weeks is not very long on medication...it'll take a little bit longer for you to get the full effect.

Are you receiving counselling? If not I strongly suggest you ask your psychiatrist to refer you for some.....it will really help you.

Lots of luck and best wishes. (You will get better...I did)

Please please please do. My younger sister was doing it for a while and although she seems a lot better now we all wish she would seek counselling but she is 19 and we can't force her. I feel for you so much, you must get help. I understand the control thing as for years I was a heroin addict and knew how I would feel most of time I'd either be stoned or in withdrawals which isn't really feeling on an emotional level at all. When I got clean (currently in relapse mode) it felt like I couldn't control anything and that I was loosing my grip so I started acting out with food as this I could control. I would go for days on end eating minimally as possible, it got so I eventually made myself very ill. So although maybe not always exactly the same as you, there are people who will relate and that will understand and help. Good luck

Most definitely. Your psychiatrist is there to help you manage and control your feelings. Prozac is quite a heavy drug, assuming (rightly or wrongly) that you've had others in the past with little results.
Enjoy the times that you are happy and channel these happy feelings into doing something good that make you feel valued.
You are allowed to be happy and don't ever forget that.
Good Luck.

You must tell the psychiatrist every thing and why you do this? Taking tablets isn't going to make you feel better all of a sudden. You need to talk and fined the root of the problem and bring it to the surface and learn how to deal with it so you can move on in your life. It will take time! what ive learnt is if you want to help yourself you can! but its got to be you!!

Yes you should tell them because its for your own good...in order to understand your feelings you have to be completely honest, also be aware that anti depressants take a while to have an effect and its the first few weeks that are the hardest

Yes but be careful they might put you in the Psych ward. The Psych ward is not a nice place to be! Sometimes when talking to doctors is not helpful some things you just have to save for someone you trust like a friend or loved one. Maybe if your doctor is someone you get along with well and feel comfortable they are one of those friends/loved ones that it helps to talk with. Whatever way you go or decide I wish you the best! Good luck and God bless!

You surely should tell your psychiatrist about this and continue to take your medication until told to stop. Speak to him about how you are truely feeling you would be surprised at how they listen and in time you hopefully will feel better within yourself and allow yourself this feeling, freely. You have aright to be happy and should welcome the feeling as hard as it is, my sincere good luck wishes to you.
