Me and a few friends for a school project are singing to a well-known song. We don't want to American Idol it, by acapella-ing (I don't know how to spell that) so we were wondering if there was a program that we can feed the song into and then be able to splice out the words. Then we could just put the remaining instrumental music onto a CD so that we would have background music while we were singing.

And does anyone know if a program like this is offered for free?

Not possible. What you're looking for is called a "lyric remover", and its effienciency is usually quite HORRIBLE. After you remove the lyric, the background music sounds like it came through a tin cup.
