Dog toothpaste Only! It is only 4 bucks. Using anything else is totally wasting both your time:Its effective because it has special ENZYMES that clean the dogs teeth long after the soft! dog tooth brush has been used. The brush is more of a applicator than a good brushing device. So dump a few dollars and use the correct stuff for the right reasons!

I would not use human toothpaste because it's not safe to swallow- this is why they make toddler training toothpaste until the child is old enough to swallow. Swallowing the toothpaste could cause your dog to vomit.
If you are not able to get dog toothpaste, use baking soda and water. It;s a good abrasive. Keep in mind that dogs prefer dog tooth paste because you can get it flavored as beef, chicken, mint or even seafood (the last designed for cats)

Try using baking soda OR hydrogen peroxide 3%. Use one or the other, but not mixed together. Neither is going to taste much better than regular toothpaste, but either will get the job done.
Please see the link below for a homemade FLAVORED toothpaste that may work out better for you.
BAKING SODA TOOTHPASTE:: Take the baking soda & water to make a paste and brush his/her teeth as you would normally. I would use a dentist's scaler while brushing to get any tartar or plaque build-up off as well. You can use water to rinse or damp paper towels to get the excess out of his mouth. He's not going to like it.
Don't use human toothpastes. Many human toothpastes contain fluoride, detergents and other agents that are not good for your dog to swallow. Dogs swallow almost anything that's put into their mouths. It's the nature of the beast!
Just remember that your dog cannot rinse and spit. So you are going to have to be willing to rinse well for him/her.
Good luck!

you cant use human toothpaste, just because it is safe for humans doesn't mean that its OK for dog, its like chocolate! Don't listen to the first person! anyways you should ask a vet to see what else you can use. I also have dog mints, that i give my dog three times a day. if you were worried about doggy breath

You can use human tooth paste, just make sure that it's meant for kids (you know, the type you can swallow). If it's safe for humans to swallow, then it's fine for dogs. stay away from normal toothpaste that's meant to be spit out, remember, dogs will swallow all the toothpaste.
p.s. : be careful when brushing your dog's teeth...

NO bad idea it isn't good for a dog. Try the petodent toothpaste its about 5 dollars a tube but keep it out of reach because they will eat it (its chicken flavored) For a cheaper way making baking soda and water.
