I think you're talking about Peter Stormare. He played Satan in the movie "Constantine" and I thought he was fantastic.
He's been in a bunch of other things, too.

I can only assume you mean "Peter Stormare" (who is also famous for acting, in such movies as Fargo, and Armageddon)
In the VW commercials, Peter is trying to be a GERMAN ("V-Dub, german engineering in the houz")
