There are several fantastic places to locate scholarships and financial aid in both your community and on websites. There are scholarships for grades, religion, ethnicity, college majors, sports, and even a scholarship for wearing duct tape to the high school prom. It is an idea to start searching for scholarships as early as the freshman year of high school, but it is never too late to search for them as a senior, too. Here are great places to locate college scholarships and financial aid.
First, fill out the FAFSA form after January 1 of the senior year. It will tap into need based financial aid from the federal and state goverment levels along with the college or university itself. It is based on both family income and financial resources.
Second, study hard in high school because it can tap into merrit based scholarships. This is based on your Grade Point Average (GPA) and sometimes SAT/ACT scores. This is given by the college or university itself.
Third, the college's financial aid office and website list outside scholarships from private organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major will list some, too.
Fourth, go to the public library because there is a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.
Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered into a form on its website.
