Sometimes people have generalized feelings of guilt for various reasons. If one is habituated to feeling guilty then guilt will be his or her close companion. Or perhaps one was programmed to feel guilt when certain stimuli are applied.

Mostly though people know why they feel guilty and sometimes they really shouldn't feel guilty at all. An over active conscience can cause that or false interpretation of the event that put one in a position of having harmed another.

It doesn't arise out of nowhere.

It comes from well trained Jewish mothers and those mom's they give private lessons to.

And what are you referencing as a Maha Maya? I found that it is a CD and the mother of Gautama Buddha; she was the wife of Raja Shuddhodana. As you don't strike me as a Buddha, are you into Durga music?

Guilt doesn't arise from nowhere, it is instilled based on upbringing, education and social contact.

Depending on what country and what social group you are in, you will find that what people feel guilt over changes.
