“When we two parted / In silence and tears,/ Half broken-hearted / To sever for years, / Pale grew thy cheek and cold, / Colder thy kiss;/ Truly that hour foretold / Sorrow to this.” ~ Lord Byron

“It's very cold-hearted, but war has generally been good for the markets and the economy.” ~ Hugh Johnson

“The planting of trees is the least self-centered of all that we can do. It is a purer act of faith than the procreation of children.” ~ Thornton Wilder

"People are self-centered

to a nauseous degree.

They will keep on about themselves

while I'm explaining me.” ~ Piet Hein

“Those who have passed away must be in a happier state than those living.

How we have been so self-centered as to think primarily in terms of the contrary.” ~ Martin Dansky

Besides the quote on selfcenteredness that appears here under my name there are another two on egocentricity which is a synomous:

"Unbalanced pride is often a false friend, and is ruinous for egomaniacs who can't see beyond their choices of expressing art.”

"If you've chosen egocentricity for your career path than you've chosen to live with the illusion that your surroundings will serve you continuously."

Try to be as open-minded as you can without excluding innovative ideas that are alien, is what I was thinking of in the first quote mentioned here.

I can't cite any references, as these are very common quotes:

"Every man for himself."
"It's a dog-eat-dog world."
"Kill or be killed."
"Only the strong survive."
"It's survival of the fittest."
"If you want anything in this world, you have to work for it."
"Don't expect anything to be handed to you."

And there are plenty more like these.
