he was licking it and so we put a colar on him and he has worn it for on and off for a week and a half. I think he is still getting to it, he does not seem to be in any pain but it looks like a red pea not swollen, but flat, not really bleeding but red should I take him back to the vet?

Sounds like just a regular incision mark. If it is not swollen, hot to the touch and your dog is having no difficulty urinating or defecating, I wouldn't be concerned. Give it time to heal and all should be well.

If it was my cat, I think a quick visit to the vet would be in order. Suppose it is infected and will only get worse. Isn't it worth the peace of mind to have it checked out. At the least, the vet can give you some advice or maybe even a little salve to apply....

I would call the vet first and describe it to him and follow his advice. If it starts to ooze I would take him in right away, but if there is not much need for immediate care calling the vet would be OK for now.

It's red, the cat is constantly wanting to lick it... something is wrong. Take him back to the vet. :)

You need to just take it back to the Vet that did the spay and have them look at it. It may be nothing but better safe than sorry. They won't charge you just to look at it. You won't need to see the Dr.
